Creative Scrappers Reader's Reveal

The Creative Scrappers have celebrated their 1st birthday with a month long birthday bash with lots of new sketches, giveaways, games etc. Their Reader's Reveal was every Tuesday and Thursday of the month of April and I was lucky to have been asked to create a layout for the last reveal which is today.

The sketch is here and this is my layout.

 

London, I'm coming!

I'm leaving for London in few hours' time. I'll try to blog from there but it just might be that I will be too occupied or too tired :) See you in a week!

 

Freshly picked flowers

is the title of the challenge #12. We had to create handmade flowers. Loved this challenge - actually I loved quite a few challenges over the weekend.

Here's my layout where I used hand stitching, beading, machine stitching, I used acrylic paints and Distress stickles and of course I created different types of flowers from paper and fabric. Loved how this turned out.

One hour challenge

We had to create, photograph and upload a sketch in 20 minutes. After that we could choose our own sketch or someone else's and we had exactly an hour to finish.

I chose Lisa's sketch. Lisa is a very talented and fun scrapbooker I met last year at Cocoa Daisy's forum. Then I found her in the fall at The Studio. This is her sketch and this is my layout:

I won this challenge and so both Lisa, having provided the sketch, and I, having won the layout contest, will have a chance to work with Cocoa Daisy Team and the newsletter. Cool! 

Challenge # 9

was all about ruffles and frills.

This is what I came up with:

My ruffles are made of crepe paper. Kristina is such a NO ruffles girl - she wore ruffles and lace in her Carnival dresses and not after she turned 9! Well, she might reconsider when she sees how cute she was:) 

Challenge # 8

was all about green and growing. Anja's requirements were

First, the topic of the layout should be green and growing things. 
Second, your title must be hand-made and must in some way reflect the theme of your layout.

I dug out some photos from last year's vacation to Finland and surely enough I found something green and related to growing.

Andrea learned to use the axe, under Franco's supervision) last summer and so the log pile kept growing.

I had a "happy accident" while doing the layout. I had misted it already and went to sew the board. Something weird happened to the thread underneath and when I went to look at it, I decided to use the "wrong" side as my main side. I re-misted everything and attached the photos and finished the layout. I find that the loopy, garbled thread has kind of a woodsy feel to it :) Also the title is handcut out of chipboard, it mimics the logs. 

And the challenges continue...

The weekend at Cocoa Daisy was jam packed with challenges, classes, RAKs, chats, music and just plain FUN.

Christine's challenge Dear Me had stationary as inspiration + the journaling had to be written as a letter.

Here's my take. I wrote a letter to Andrea about how he has changed these past two years. The most rewarding thing was that when he read the journaling, he was really happy about it :)

 

Strawberries and cream

was Kim's challenge #6. She gave us a mood board for color and inspiration. 

This is the layout I came up with:

the poem is in Finnish and it translates roughly to this:

Still today
you put hesitantly your foot on the ground
and try
if it bears the weight of your steps.
Still today
you hold on to my hand
and move slowly at my pace.
But in the excited expression of your face
there is the promise of tomorrow:
I'll walk, I'll run, I'll fly!
Hold on, Mama,
I'm heading for great adventures!

I have to confess I got really emotional doing this layout and translating the poem. Kristina was 15 months old in these photos. She'll be 27 years old in a month's time and she's living a great adventure right now.

Oh well, I guess THIS is what scrapbooking is about!

More layouts from Saturday

Here's the challenge #3:

We had to use Glossy accents or such in this layout. I made the heart from chipboard, attached a book page onto it, used Distress Inks on it and then Diamond Glaze. Before the glaze dried up, I sprinkled some red glitter powder on it. I have to admit, it didn't really have a glossy feeling to it but it's 3D as we were asked.

This is the challenge #4

We used a picture with colored circles and x and + and o factors on them as inspiration.

Here's challenge #5 
We had to use a 2 pieces of cardstock, 1 pp, alphabet, buttons and an extra embellishment. Mine are the rhinestones. Loved this challenge. I played with photoshop with a photo of Valentina and this is the result. 
  

The first two layouts

that I created last night for Cocoa Daisy's Spring crop. The first one was Butterflies are free: we had to use butterflies but not on a spring theme page.

This is Valentina at the age of 8.

In the second one we had to use a sketch and "hang" a photo from a clothesline. I made a layout of Andrea's 5th birthday.

This morning I made a nametag using bits and pieces I had on my desk. Now it's pinned on my scrap apron.
