CSI #38 + OUAS SEPTEMBER CHALLENGE (third week)

Here's the case file with the OUAS sketch

EVIDENCE - CHOOSE AT LEAST TWO ELEMENTS:

I admit that these colors were quite difficult for me but at the end I pulled it off.

I built up layers with misting and masking, tapping Distress Ink through a stencil, stamping a lot on the background. I continued to create layers with different papers, tags and a misted doily. One of the matting papers is a Tim Holtz package and on the UL corner there's a piece of a Jenni Bowlin package. Gotta love recycling, lol!

For my evidence this time I used trees and branches (faintly seen on the background paper), border (stamped the half circles  onto the left edge of the layout) and misting.

My hidden journaling is written on the yellow tag underneath the photo. It's about the joys (and sorrows) of starting over having a child @40 and about how we've managed together. My journaling spot = the tag has also a stamped border on it.

The title is Imaginarium Designs' chipboard which I colored with Distress inks and a touch of white paint.

The Second September challenge at CSI + OUAS

 

Here's the CSI challenge #37 with Nadia's wonderful sketch for OUAS.

 

EVIDENCE - USE AT LEAST 2 ELEMENTS

• Use a song title or lyrics as inspiration for your journaling (inspired by the tape recorder).
• Handwrite your journaling.
• Take a break - break your journaling across several journaling spots.
• Write your journaling on note paper.
• Do your journaling as a diary entry.
• Inspiration Words: -- daydream, break, think -- use these as inspiration for your journaling, not just as a title

 

My take

I flipped the sketch and for my evidence I used dots, book page, circles and buttons.

For the journaling I used the Inspiration word 'daydream'

"What an awesome feeling. It was so great to be daydreaming about something for such a long time and actually have it come true."

I keep saying that I'm not a red and blue kinda girl but I loved to work on this page and precisely with these colors. The photo was taken by Andrea last year (thanks Babe!)

I sprayed the background with gesso through The Crafters' Workshop stencil (I believe it's one of Julie Balzer's wonderful stencils) and also flicked  watered down gesso to create random splashes, stitched  a strip of bookpaper, a notebook paper and a strip of patterned paper with the bar code and one strip of patterned paper underneath my photo, smeared the Imaginarium Designs' butterfly chippie with gesso and painted some of it blue. I also stamped on the background with Archival Ink  'French Ultramarine' and bubble wrap stamped a bit of black ink to spice it up. Finally I added a plethora of buttons and voilà.

This layout is very important for me since I'm living that dream right at this moment :)

CSI and Once Upon a Sketch united

For the month of September CSI and OUAS have teamed up.

The weekly challenges are combined. They have to include the CSI evidence and testimony AND the OUAS Sketch (by Nadia Cannizzo) for each week.

These are this week's color scheme and the sketch

EVIDENCE - CHOOSE AT LEAST TWO ELEMENTS:

• mesh (inspired by the net)
• Use letters as embellishments
• leaves
• misting
• fibers (inspired by her hair)
• tone on tone
• elements that float across the page
• include curved, organic shapes in your design (inspired by the rocks)

TESTIMONY - CHOOSE AT LEAST ONE ELEMENT:

• Write your journaling in the form of a letter (inspired by the letters).
• Write an acrostic using the letters of a person's name or the subject of your layout.
• Use some of the letters in the inspiration image to generate words that describe your topic.
• Scatter your journaling across your page.
• Write your journaling in speech bubbles.
• Inspiration Words: catch, [on] top, float -- use these as inspiration for your journaling, not just as a title

 

 Here is my take on the challenge

I absolutely fell in love with the colors. The photo is of Valentina. I loved to work on the background and incorporating the photo into the background.

My evidence include misting, tone on tone and leaves (stamped around the flowers). I also used mesh but decided to take it off later on since I didn't like the effect.

I  scattered  my journaling across the page.

Layers of mixed media techniques: decoupaging book papers and strips of patterned papers, gesso, stenciled dots with Adirondack's Dabber (copper), misting, applying acrylic paint with a brush (black and gold), adding tiny silver pearls to wet gesso, stitching

 

Some of the flowers are fussycut, smeared with gesso and misted, some are fabric flowers which I painted and misted. I added different flower centers and also coppery pearls here and there.

Loved the color palette

Here's my page

I loved to work on the background using gesso, paint, modeling paste, stamps and stitching. The background paper is from an old Crate paper collection that had practically all the required colors on it. I just covered it up with gesso and book papers because it was too loud as is for my liking.

I smeared gesso on the big wooden Kaisercraft heart, placed my round photos on doilies and stitched in circles around the bigger one.

I cracked the case using paint, heart, wood (the heart) and flowers (on the tape) as my evidence and for the journaling part I wrote random things about Hubbs:

- you make me so very happy
- you are patient
- you don't bear a grudge
- I always get what I want :P
- for you the family is the most important thing
- on vacation you serve me hand and foot and that is why I LOVE to go on vacation with you!
- I am a better person because of you
